Flow

Flow is a research initiative focused on understanding and enhancing movement methods including but not limited to contemporary dance technique, classical ballet, street dance styles, martial arts, and circus. This project is driven by researching movement practices with a cohort once a week. Our core objective is to create a space that encourages playfulness, experimentation, and creativity. This means having a low-barrier and inclusive environment where movement artists of all backgrounds and skill levels feel welcomed and valued. In these flows, we challenge a traveling form, and invite movers to try it in their bodies. We emphasize our bodies natural sense of coordination and intuition on how we want to move while understanding that all bodies have different shapes and proportions. There is an acceptance that a successful movement may look and feel slightly different on each body, yet share a unified pathway. This range of adaptability enables individuals to tailor the movement to their own facility which in turn fosters curiosity and often results in the creation of entirely new movement patterns. Because of the nature of the process, it is an accessible space for anyone and all abilities who are interested in participating. Our hope is to continue broadening our community, reaching new circles of movers, and bringing artists from various disciplines together. Flow is open to all who are interested in participating, and each week invites a blend of new bodies - meaning each week is unique to who attends. To any movers who are interested in joining Flow, please reach out to email briannechan13@hotmail.com and nicole.pavia2@gmail.com for more information.

Testimonial

Out Innerspace/Q7 Studios has provided us with an environment where creativity can flourish without fear or judgment. Their studio is a community staple, offering a secure, clean, and welcoming space where artists and emerging artists alike can connect, create, move, and learn. Through their generous support, we were able to begin Flow which has become a community hub, welcoming new participants every week with an encouraging, open, and passionate atmosphere. Flow was made possible by their unwavering generosity and operates with low barriers to participation, ensuring that programming remains accessible for everyone involved. Without access to this space, Flow would not have reached the capacity or impact it has today. Their many programs, including Flow, continue to inspire and nurture the artistic spirit within our city.

We extend our deepest gratitude to OIS/Q7 Studios for their ongoing generosity and dedication to cultivating a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community for artists. Flow and the connections it creates, simply would not be possible without them.
